今日気になった表現は次の文より。

moving to the big smokeの部分ですがここだけ見ると意味はよくわかりませんが、１つ前の文を読むと意味がはっきりしてくると思います。

辞書で調べてみると

英ではLondon, 豪ではSydney, Melbourne, 米ではPittsburghのこと。
